The offices, labs, and shops of US-MDP and the LBNL Superconducting Magnet Program are located in various Accelerator Technology and Applied Physics Division and Engineering Division buildings at the LBNL site. The contact office is in Building 47 (highlighted here). Building 46, just to the north, has the main offices of the Engineering Division, a key part of our superconducting magnet efforts, and just to the north of and uphill from 46 is Building 71, home to the main offices of the Accelerator Technology and Applied Physics Division.
How to Get Here
Here are instructions on getting to Berkeley Lab by car or by the Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) train. BART is a convenient, inexpensive way to get to the LBNL shuttle-bus stop downtown, and to the Hotel Shattuck Plaza (popular with LBNL visitors), from either of the area’s major airports: SFO and OAK.
The Berkeley Lab website has visitor information , including site access, the onsite Berkeley Lab Guest House and offsite acommodations, restaurants, etc.
Administrative Aspects of Your Visit
Site access has to be prearranged. In general, the employee who is hosting you, or one of our administrators, will make arrangements and provide you with detailed information.
Most visitors (people staying for less than a week or so, for purposes other than hands-on technical work) will be sent a site-access pass entitling them to park onsite or to board the shuttle bus. Bring the pass and government-issued photo ID such as a driver’s license or passport each day.
People who will be working with us longer, or in a laboratory, will usually get affiliate status, which carries with it some requirements for safety training. Affiliates receive a badge. The host or administrator will determine and communicate the requirements.
